This is one of those discussions where everyones wrong at the same time.
I generally hate when a company create artificial barriers since the backwards compatibility is software and not hardware that in no way affect the consoles performance.
Those who complains about it are also wrong because a play station 2 console cost the same as 2 PS3 games and you should have gotten one long before the PS3 release anyway.
And the slogan is not true anyway. It doesn’t have my have my M&M dispenser for Guitar hero (patent pending)
I resent having to set up two machines just to play my old libraries. What’s even more bazaar is the fact that it plays DVDs and Blueray just fine, yet they can’t just make it read the old playstation disks.
Out of curiosity what game do you have for it TexTech?
Okay first of all, I AM NOT AFFILIATED WITH TEXAS TECH. Ugh. You wouldn’t believe how much I get that. I spent 10 bucks to change my WoW char’s name because of it. I even almost made another email account so nobody would ask about it. But it is fun to watch my brother play CoD and hear people on the voice chat pronouncing it wrong
Sorry if you didn’t mean it that way I just go into NerdRage mode when Texas Tech gets brought up…
Anyway! My dad bought it a few months after they came out at Christmas just because they had 3 at Walmart, 2 40 gigs and 1 60 gig. A while later we found out about the compatibility thing so if things had happened differently I’d be right there with ya Dr D so I sympathize.
My brother plays CoD4 and CoD: Modern Warfare when he’s home (he refuses to play WoW because he doesn’t like leveling, he’d eBay if he could, the bastard >.<), I've also got The Orange Box (portal ftw), Oblivion, F.E.A.R. 2 (not the first one, strangely), Mirror's Edge, Bad Company, Rock Band 2, and GTA4. I've also got Brutal Legend on preorder at gamestop :] Can't wait for that one!
I'm entirely too lazy to list off all the PS2 games I've got but my favorites were the Jak and Daxter games and Kingdom Hearts. I had an N64 before that and I skipped GameCube entirely and the only games I have for my *stolen* wii are wii sports and homestar runner episode one.
I am considering putting a bullet in my Wii and buying a PS3 do you guys have any tips on what one should consider when buying the game. Also some recomendations on the older cheaper games (Im trying to stay behind the curve)
Well if I were you I’d keep the Wii. I’ve got lots of Wii games on my shelf most of which I’ve loved with only a couple of them being dookie (Sonic and the Secret Rings anyone?). In contrast I’ve only got 3 Playstation games and only 4 that I’m looking forward to picking up this year.
Wiiware has also been bangin. You can find a ton of great downloadable game in the shop channel. PSN is finaly getting off their butt for a good shop channel, so ether way you’d be set for downloadable gaming.
However if you really do want to switch, my games Metal Gear Solid 4, Ratchet and Clank, and Little Big Planet. All of which I loved.
Well this could evolve into another rant on why the Wii have disappointed me in every turn.
suffice to say that Ive had my Wii for 2 years now and the relationship isn’t going anywhere. we have agreed that we should see other people.
I think your relationship is better because you have your own little harem there.
I was shifting between the 360 and PS3. 360 was winning for a long time but in the end it lost because of its failure rate. I don’t care how nice it is if it breaks on me. (I have Nes gaming values. you can drop it while playing and not lose a pixel).
I was wondering if there something you should think about when buying? (I don’t want to do the GameCube mistake where I was without memory card for a week)
My comment got marked as spam again I guess :I Your spam detector doesn’t want me to share my opinions I guess >.< And I would like to say I wish I'd gotten Fallout 3 instead of Mirror's Edge because I liked Oblivion so much…
Sorry TexasTechie (see I said it right) about the spam thing. The program is supposed to learn from its mistakes but for some reason it hates you. I’ll try and get it fixed.
No you did the right thing. Mirrors edge is creative fast pasted and beautiful. Fallout is tired uncreative and brown as well as a ending that makes RPGers cry. Mirrors edge is one of those im getting for PS# because it hurts my computer (over heats the graphic card to the point where it starts sending warning noises).
Blah. Well at least the human side of the website cares <3
Yeah but(and it might be my short attention span) I got to the 4th mission in Mirror's Edge and quit. I can't stand first person shooters, and as sparse as the fighting is in that game it's enough to make me rethink my purchase. Which speaks volumes for me because I think regrets are a waste of brainspace.
I don’t think fallout is the game for you if you don’t like FPS. granted its more of a “Monkey on your shoulder Shooter” and they have the bastard son of fallouts targeting system but most of the game play works as a FPS. Shoot at stuff and find cover while reloading. If you’re buying it because you liked the old fallouts I really recommend getting a demo or something first since its a fallout game in the same way Disney land is a movie. And get it for PC because There is a crazy community out there that makes kick ass mods for it.
Heres a good article on that http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/experienced-points/6389-Experienced-Points-Mods-Playground

My PS3 plays PS2 games… Its the 60 gig version if that means anything…
You realize I have to hate you now Texastechie.

Dr. Disaster I recomend getting Batman for the PS3 to play as the Joker.
I’ve been hearing amazing things about that game. I might look into later this year (I’m incredibly cheap you see. I wait for them to go to $19).
Plus playing as the Joker would probably be the equivalent of strapping electrodes to the pleasure centers of my brain and turning the knob up to 11.
My thinking exactly Dr. D.
tough Rosscott recently made a comic about the flaws in that.
