No Sega. No.
No Sega. Sorry. No.
I suffered through your horrible slew of new Sonic games. I played through every controller throwing moment of Sonic and the Secret Rings. I watched in disgust as you turned Shadow the Hedgehog into a gangster. I even stuck up for you when Sonic Unleashed was coming out and it looked like you had somewhat learned your lesson (on air).
I’m done. Every time you claim “Sonic is back!” and every time it turns out to be a giant pile of unplayable sludge. You say the traditional elements are back, but then you throw more characters and gimmicks in at the last minute. You obviously have no idea what you’re doing and we’re not fooled by this trailer.
If it turns out this game is the amazing comeback of Sonic I will gladly eat my words. Until then I fully expect this game to be like the other mountains poo that proceeded it.

I agree and that is why the last sonic game I have played was Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. Yes I am aware that the controls are “hard” (that’s what she said) but I personaly thought it was a good game nonetheless.
I’m willing to give Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 a pass. 1 wasn’t bad, yet it wasn’t on par with past games. It controlled fine, but lacked that experience that past Sonic games had.
2 I’m more harsh on because it started the trend that would by the downfall of every game after it:
-Tons of characters
-Overly complicated plot
-Hard to control characters
2 isn’t an awful game, but it’s what started the decline.
Being the former Sonic fanboy that I am, and having foolishly bought nearly every single Sonic game since Sonic Adventure 1, I can safely say…
No Good will come of this.
Every single sonic game of the last god knows how many years have been a load of old wank.
With the possible exception of the DS games.
I think this is one of the few times since 1994 (or whenever the 64 came out. Sorry) that a game has gone ‘Look, it’s 2D, isn’t that amazing!?’
I’m not a Sonic fan, and have never owned on of his games. Well, unless you count the Sonic for the iPod tht my friend let me put on mine after he downloaded it. Or Brawl. Should I count Brawl?
Anyway, I’m not getting this even if everyone says it’s awesome. I have quite a list of games to get through that aren’t Sonic
I liked Sonic Rush. I never really played the older games and can say what you should be feeling but that was a fun game. the problem with sonic is that he was a competitor with Mario at the time he was invented and did that bit very well. the problem is that Mario is adaptive in a way sonic isn’t. Mario was created to be Nintendo’s universal character for all their games while Sonic was created to be better than Mario the way Mario was played at the time. This worked really well but they neglected that gaming environments evolve. in the end they are truly the animals they represent. Mario is adaptive like a human and works well in all environments while sonic is a hedgehog that is very sensitive to new environments.
the problem occurs when the hedgehog tries to do human things. its doomed to fail because hedgehogs don’t have thumbs you see.
I think this was one of my weirder rants but the point is that Sonic should stay in the area he is good at. mainly high speed platforming in 2D. anything is like hedgehog building a house. the roof will probably fall in and crush him.
J brings up good points. First, as much as we all moan about how bad the new Sonic games are, Sega did release a very good game on the DS called Sonic Rush. It was what Sonic should be, fast and fun.
How does everyone else feel? I’m in agreement with J where although Sonic’s games are fun, you can really only go so far with the concept. Going fast and jumping, that’s it. Agree? Disagree?
The thing I don’t get is that Sega think they can keep making trailers like these and expect people to give a shit. but on the other hand I often question the general intelligence of gamers.
On a related subject. I got my PS3 this week and I am really happy to finally have some decent hardware. the control is a piece of poop tough. you cant aim to save your life (I had a PS2 but I mostly played Kingdom hearts games on it and if youve played those games you understand why accuracy isnt a problem) I maintain the opinion that the GameCube controller was the best piece of design ever constructed. granted that there wasn’t a lot of games for the thing but you could pick up a game from any genre and instantly learn the control scheme and do stuff with accuracy.
