Episode LXXXVI: Close Encounters of the Wrong Kind

New Episode

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you one of the hardest episodes I’ve ever had to edit. Why? Because I forgot to switch my brain on before the record, so I had to edit out tons of dead air and the word “umm”. I used to like the word umm. It was my fall back word. Now it’s dead to me…

However after editing I think the episode turned out pretty decent. Give it a listen to hear us discuss some backdated listener mail, further plugs for Faded Twilight’s epic video gaming marathon, a new zombie plan (finally!), and encounters with those rascally aliens.

I also brought up that there will be a special video podcast going out this Wednesday. It’s called “Otaking Challenge 2009″ and it took me over 4 months to edit. However 3 and a half months were spent playing video games and watching movies so I don’t think that counts as work. I’m baffled podcast episodes even went out. The video was the final project me and my partner did for our anime class. We picked questions only the true king of otaku would know, and quizzed 3 contestants on their anime knowledge. The video turned out great (I love when I get to go crazy on transitions and effects) and I can’t wait for you all to see it.

And stated in the episode (and my magic make reality), the alternate ending to the fizzy lifting drink scene from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Warning: It gets really dark. Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaalllllly dark…

Game Recomendation: Sonic Rush

For all the complaining we Sonic fans do about how terrible the new Sonic games are, it’s easy to forget that Sonic Team did make an excellent Sonic game in 2005. Sonic Rush featured the traditional elements that we’d all been missing. Speed, side scrolling, and platforming. A.k.a ALL THE ELEMENTS THAT NEVER SHOULD HAVE LEFT!

The game is oodles of fun. It even improved on some the concepts of earlier Sonic games. In earlier Sonic games you’d get up to full speed, but usually run into a trap or an enemy shortly after, robbing you of all your rings and joy. Sonic Rush however featured level sections that had you running at top speed through loops, over cliffs, even upside down on the roof. These section let you sit back and enjoy the fun of just zooming around the area. There’s also a power meter that allows Sonic to go even faster, sending enemies flying when you slam into them.

Sonic Rush also rocked by having only 2 playable characters. They controlled basically the same and both handled perfectly. The story was thankfully less convoluted than previous titles. Dr. Eggman accidentally creates a rift in time and space and an alternate Eggman starts causing trouble. That’s it. Thank God.

If you find it on the shelf for 15 bucks pick it up. It’s a fantastic game and has great replay value.
