Episode XCIV: Video Games Pre-Recorded IV: Judgement Day

New EpisodeWhat do you get when Villainy INC becomes too lazy to come up with things to talk about? Another installment of Video Games Pre-Recorded that’s what! I’m not too hot on this episode because I noticed while editing it that we didn’t really play a lot of video game music. Kinda defeats the purpose. Oh well. Tune in anyway to hear music from games like Punch Out, Metal Gear Solid, Kingdom Hearts, and Mega Man!

And huge apologies to Ollie. I had the mp3 for “I Don’t Want to Set the World on Fire” but for some reason it didn’t make it into the episode playlist. No idea how that happened. Once again I suspect elves. We’ll play it on the show some other time.

We didn’t really mention any videos in the episode so I’ll leave you all with this. Rock on.

Happy Thanksgiving from Villainy INC

From everyone involved here at Villainy INC, we wanted to wish you all a happy Thanksgiving. For our international listeners who may not know, Thanksgiving is a holiday where Americans eat way too much food with people we hate. Sure we do that every day, but usually we don’t down the whole turkey in one sitting. The holiday was created by the peace the pilgrims and the Indians shared for one day, before they brutally slaughtered them and took their land the next day.

Why Earthbound will probably never be re-released on the VC.

After beating Earthbound for the first time (awesome game by the way), I was curious what song tracks where in copyright violation. I caught an homage here and there (I was quite proud of myself for catching the Monty Python sample) but I never thought anything sounded too close to other songs. That is until I saw this video.

This clip is a bit too long (it really could have been only 5 minutes) but it’s pretty interesting if you want to hear where all the music came from.

Yeah some of those are pretty damn close to real songs…

For The Children!

The guys over at LoadingReadyRun (which were interviewed a while back…) are doing their 3rd annual Desert Bus For Hope gaming marathon, where they play the most boring video game of all time as long as people donate money to Childs Play Charity (by Penny Arcade).

There’s a live stream of them doing funny stuff (such as singing, dancing or dramatic readings). It’s definitely worth watching (and chatting on #desert-bus-drivercam on chat1.ustream.tv) where you’ll also find me (ojii) and texastechie! And if you have some money, any money really, go donate it FOR THE CHILDREN! Or do it like me and make them sing a song for money (paid 7.50 USD to sing ‘Zombies on a Lawn’ in Japanese, same song I made Dr. Disaster sing).

PS: Sorry Dr. Disaster for abusing my powers, but it’s FOR THE CHILDREN!

Next Episode will be another Video Games Pre-Recorded

I’m exhausted making the show (we’ve gone about 3 months without missing a week) so next episode is going to be another installment of Video Games Pre-Recorded. For those of you who don’t know, these are the episodes where WK and I DJ an episode featuring our favorite video game music.

This time around I thought I’d ask our listeners if there’s any of their favorites they’d like to hear. Tell us your favorites in the comments section and we’ll try and play them on the show.

We’re also going to be taking Thanksgiving off. Believe it or not we’re not robots. Or are we…DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUUUN

Episode XCIII: Web of Lies

New Episode

This week we discussed things of merriment. Okay it’s the same old crap but it’s still fun. Topics include mail from a new and a veteran listener, podcast naughtiness levels, Mother 3, and the Citizen Kane of gaming. Also spambot love. Huzzahs all around.

[podcast]http://www.evillairproductions.com/podcast/ep93.mp3[/podcast]

Oh and Walrus King didn’t announce his song for the song break this week so it’s a mystery. I couldn’t jimmy his announcement in without breaking the flow of the episode so I left it out. Helps when you’re the one with the scissors bitch.

OH! And here’s the link for the fan translation for Mother 3. They did a really good on it and Starmen.net is a great site in general for all your Earthbound needs.

As promised here is the short film Leap of Faith. I made this for a production class about a year and a half ago. And yes, that is the one and only Osiris as the lead. Sir Michael and I also make cameos mid way through. While I’m usually never really happy with my work, I really enjoyed how this one turned out. When I show this short to gamers they tell me how much they liked the humor because they could relate to the story. You won’t be surprised to hear that this short was based on actual events. Hope you like it!

My Unbearable Sadness for Mother 3′s Battle System.

As you’ll all hear in this week’s episode, I recently beat Earthbound and am now playing Mother 3 (or Earthbound 2 if it ever gets brought over here.) I’m loving the game, but the battle system is butchered on a computer’s emulator. You see the game uses a really cool turn based battle system where you can score extra hits by tapping the A button to the beat of the background music. However the emulator doesn’t run the game at 100% all the time (mine usually averages around 98-99%) so that means there’s a very small lag between what you’re seeing and what you’re hearing. This isn’t a problem for most games, but it makes these multiple hit combos almost impossible on an emulator. This by no means makes the game impossible, but it would be more fun to take advantage of the background music.

I really wish my computer would run the game properly. But you know what I’d rather do? BUY A COPY OF THE GAME FOR $30 AND PLAY IT ON MY GBA LIKE IT WAS INTENDED. Come on Nintendo! Smash Bros made Fire Emblem a success world wide and it would do the same for the Mother series! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve played Brawl with people and they say “I’d really like to check out Lucas’s game.” Sigh…

Villainy INC now in the Zune Marketplace. Huzzah?

We’ve received some complaints that our podcast is too iTunes-centric. Well after 2 months of waiting Villainy INC was finally accepted into the Zune marketplace. Now all of you who hate convenient, user friendly, well designed music players can listen to the show on your pine cone-err I mean Zune. I can’t figure out how to get the marketplace url so you’ll just have to search “villainy inc” in the store. In iTunes you simply have to right click to get the store url. Boy iTunes is more convenient.
