Unbeatable

The new thread is here as promised. In the latest episode of villainy Inc, a discussion was brought up about Dr. D’s laziness in video games. Apparently when things get to hard he just wants someone else to take care of things for him haha. So I want to know who else feels the same way and why. In the comments section write the name of the game and the level, boss, or section of the game that you feel deserves the “auto-play” feature that was discussed in the episode. To get the ball rolling I will start. In the Episode I mention Mike Tyson’s Punch out for the original NES, but after more consideration my final answer is as follows.

My all time hardest game was the original Gauntlet for the NES. You only get one life and if you combine that with the worlds lowest health bar (2-3 hits) and the fact that you can’t save your game, which means if you ever want to beat the stupid thing you have to play it non-stop, or do the old pause trick (pause, turn off your TV and leave your system running and pray to god someone in your family isn’t feeling like a dick today and shuts your game off). And finally! when you die you have to start all over. That stupid game was practically impossible. (without cheating of course) haha

This game could have definitely used the “Auto-Play” feature for those particularly nasty portions when death was eminent.

Final Fantasy VIII, the whole game.

Now keep in mind I’m a huge Final Fantasy freak (especially VII) but VIII just plain SUCKS!

The bit of Windwaker where you’re stuck in the castle and have to sneak around. I love the game, but that part really sucks. I used a walkthrough for the castle bit anyway, so it wouldn’t have really made a difference.

    Ocarina of Time: Water Temple.

Ugh, I use walkthroughs, videos and EVERYTHING I can to get through that temple, and it still takes me about 2 months. I HATE IT!

lol. Zelda games are piss easy. except the first 2. those are just weird.
I say Prince of Persia sands of time.
Braid should have it for all puzzles because people will go look up walk troughs anyway. you might as well incorporate it in the game.

  5. Theremin says:

Psychonauts and all of the Oddworld games.

Bravura games, but christy, the difficulty curve has more troughs and peaks than a mountaineering pig farmer.

Any RPG that has a battle that you are supposed to lose in, FFIX’s Beatrix battle in Cleyra . I hate wasting all of my items fighting an overpowered foe only for the game to tell you, hey, you could have just gone on a bathroom break while your massively grinded characters are raped.

Super Mario Forever, the whole game. I was once ‘forced’ to play this in a game contest…. painful… I think I lost by 5 pixels against my opponent…

I’m going to say a game I have never even played but was discussed in classic when you first came on…….Lair. The whole controler.

Please note I don’t have this game or a PS3, this is olny baseless spectisism.

Megaman X4. I had the super armor that you had to use a code to get, and i still couldnt bear the final boss. For that matter, ALL megaman games. X or not. Also, medusa in castlevainia.

  10. Dr. Disaster says:

Holy crap in a hat Megaman X4 was waaaaaaaaaaaaay too hard! I’m not sure if the programmers thought we were all x-men class mutants that are able to precieve time faster than other people but the final boss is unfairly hard.

Also Harrision brings up something that has ruined my boss battle fun for all RPGs. I never know if I’m supposed to lose the fight or if I’m supposed to win it, so I play it safe most of the time and never use any of my items or magic. 45 minutes later when I actually win, I contemplate how that fight really should have lasted 6 minutes had I used my magic and good items.

Also you don’t have to play Lair to know it’s bad. Just know the game is broken. Like new Sonic the Hedgehog game broken. You know you’re in for a night of frustration when the hardest part of the game is moving your character.
