I like these days. They are fun and hold no religious connection at all. Too bad that Swedes don’t takes note this day either…

  2. ojii says:

WTF sweden? We Swiss celebrate St. Patricks day, well at least we drink loads of alcohol that day :D

  3. Joshua J Steinberg says:

Are you sure that most people didn’t just celebrate Wednesday?

  4. ojii says:

    hard to tell really

  5. Faded Twilight says:

Wait, St. Patrick’s Day doesn’t have any religious connection?

Does the word “Saint” not have religious connection?

I mean, Saint Patrick was practically a saviour in Ireland, the legend goes that he drove all the snakes out of the land. So, technically, yes, it does have a Irish Catholic connection. While it is no longer considered a religious holiday, it still does have a deep religious connection for people with strong Irish Catholic families. *glares at grandmother currently visiting*

  6. Ollie says:

Yeah, but the Irish totally could have handled those snakes on their own. They’re the Irish, for God’s sake!

  7. Joshua J Steinberg says:

    @faded Twilight
    I stand corrected…

So there are no snakes in Ireland then?

  8. Faded Twilight says:

Eh, I have no idea, it’s probably just a legend, or more of a metaphore than anything else.

  9. Texastechie says:

Saint Patrick was an Englishman who got shanghai’d and taken from his home to Ireland to be a slave. He escaped and went back home to England, stayed there for a while, found God, yadda yadda yadda, became a missionary, went back to Ireland and convinced the king to kick all the druids out and go back to Christ.

Now what all that has to do with alcohol and snakes and whatnot I have no idea. I don’t even know what he’s the saint of actually. I’m not catholic, I just had a comprehensive detailed old world history book when I was a kid :/
