After beating Earthbound for the first time (awesome game by the way), I was curious what song tracks where in copyright violation. I caught an homage here and there (I was quite proud of myself for catching the Monty Python sample) but I never thought anything sounded too close to other songs. That is until I saw this video.
This clip is a bit too long (it really could have been only 5 minutes) but it’s pretty interesting if you want to hear where all the music came from.
Yeah some of those are pretty damn close to real songs…
This week we discussed things of merriment. Okay it’s the same old crap but it’s still fun. Topics include mail from a new and a veteran listener, podcast naughtiness levels, Mother 3, and the Citizen Kane of gaming. Also spambot love. Huzzahs all around.
Oh and Walrus King didn’t announce his song for the song break this week so it’s a mystery. I couldn’t jimmy his announcement in without breaking the flow of the episode so I left it out. Helps when you’re the one with the scissors bitch.
OH! And here’s the link for the fan translation for Mother 3. They did a really good on it and Starmen.net is a great site in general for all your Earthbound needs.
As promised here is the short film Leap of Faith. I made this for a production class about a year and a half ago. And yes, that is the one and only Osiris as the lead. Sir Michael and I also make cameos mid way through. While I’m usually never really happy with my work, I really enjoyed how this one turned out. When I show this short to gamers they tell me how much they liked the humor because they could relate to the story. You won’t be surprised to hear that this short was based on actual events. Hope you like it!

As you’ll all hear in this week’s episode, I recently beat Earthbound and am now playing Mother 3 (or Earthbound 2 if it ever gets brought over here.) I’m loving the game, but the battle system is butchered on a computer’s emulator. You see the game uses a really cool turn based battle system where you can score extra hits by tapping the A button to the beat of the background music. However the emulator doesn’t run the game at 100% all the time (mine usually averages around 98-99%) so that means there’s a very small lag between what you’re seeing and what you’re hearing. This isn’t a problem for most games, but it makes these multiple hit combos almost impossible on an emulator. This by no means makes the game impossible, but it would be more fun to take advantage of the background music.
I really wish my computer would run the game properly. But you know what I’d rather do? BUY A COPY OF THE GAME FOR $30 AND PLAY IT ON MY GBA LIKE IT WAS INTENDED. Come on Nintendo! Smash Bros made Fire Emblem a success world wide and it would do the same for the Mother series! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve played Brawl with people and they say “I’d really like to check out Lucas’s game.” Sigh…
Another Friday, another episode. This week WK and myself discussed last week’s episode, an email we got that makes absolutely no sense, our musical abilities (or inability),zombies and our plans to thwart them, and of course the gaming treasure that is Earthbound. Shenanigans ensue. Lots of shenanigans.
While our discussion of Earthbound isn’t necessarily funny, it does bring up some interesting points on vidja game legaletry. If a company isn’t willing to provide or release a game, should you be able to download it? After all the cartridges are region locked so you can’t just buy them from Japan. Thoughts? COMMENTS NOW!!!
Oh look. Here’s a link to the ROM for EarthBound. Wow who put that there. I should really delete that. Maybe some other time though. I’ve got EarthBound to finish.
This week’s youtube vidja is very special. You’re about to see the unrealeased beta footage for EarthBound 64. This game never made it past the beta stages, and was later remade into the GBA game Mother 3. Almost everything in this trailer made it into the finished version of Mother 3 and I’m dying to play it. You’d think with all the publicity Lucas got from Smash Bros Brawl they’d get right on that. That one’s next on my playlist.
