Guess who beat New Super Mario Bros Wii without autoplay!

Long long ago Osiris accused me of being the reincarnation of Hitler for even entertaining the idea of a game helping me through the difficult parts. He said that I don’t believe in working hard for the things I want and all I care about the destination (never you mind that I’ve personally produced every episode of Villainy INC for 2 and a half years now and he quit…). Well guess who saved the princess without Luigi taking over once!

I’d be lying if I say I wasn’t tempted to use the super guide on some of the levels. This game can get unforgivably hard. There’s parts where you’ll just die, and die, and dieeeeeeeeeeee. Sometimes it’s just a screen of bullet bills flying across the screen and you have to make your way through. Also if you play an ice level without a penguin suit you can expect a level of nothing but sliding into every conceivable danger imaginable. Oh and lava as a one hit kill has to be one of the greatest sins in gaming. There were even a few levels were I surprised myself with how many swears I could string together after I died.

But in the end this is a completely beatable game. Almost every level has a “trick” to it that not only makes progressing through it easier, but also more fun. This game really doesn’t need the super guide, but I can totally understand if people use it.

All in all this a great Mario Bros game and I highly recommend it. It plays and feels just like Super Mario Bros 3 and World and made me feel all fuzzy inside.

Next Zelda game will be Wii-Motion Plus. WOOOOOOOOOOT

As you all know (because I shove it down your throats constantly) I’m a huge Zelda fan. Well the notoriously loose lipped Miyamoto confirmed that the next Zelda will be Wii Motion Plus. Like I said earlier in my Wii Sports Resort recommendation, I was blown away that WMP (I’m tired of typing the whole thing) actually worked and read all my movements perfectly. I can’t wait to see how they implement it in my favorite franchise. Now if only LucasArts would make that lightsaber game we’ve all wanted…

Episode LXXXVII: Wii Love Saw

New EpisodeI would love to know what Walrus King was typing during this episode. I got tired of editing it out so I left most of it in to punish him. It better have been a novel he was typing.

As stated in the episode we’re upping the ante on Faded Twilight’s gaming marathon. Donations have been a bit lackluster, so to jump start the donations we’re going to do something crazy if she reaches her goal. So far the current plan is Walrus King and I will sing a power ballad (completely serious. No jokes or fooling around). However we’re still open to ideas. Anything crazy you’d like to see us do?

However the above paragraph is moot if you don’t donate! Click here to contribute. We have until October 17th to make it.

By the by here’s some info on the Saw video game. Turns out it’s already been released. Sigh…Is anyone remotely interested in picking this up? I still like my version better…

Here’s the video that Walrus King mentioned in the episode. I gotta say this is the first SNL video in many years that actually made me laugh. Great stuff. I’m biased towards it however, because of the Walken. The Walken is king.

Game Recomendation: Wii Sports Resort

I remember back in 2007 when I was shivering in line to get my Wii. I hadn’t put to much research into the Wii, all I really knew was that it had motion control and a free game. Also I had a copy of Twilight Princess that was begging to be played so I needed the console badly. Deciding to try out the free game first, I couldn’t believe how much fun Wii Sports was. The motion control worked almost perfectly with the games (with the exception of boxing which worked about 50% of the time) and I was surprised with how much the motion controls brought to the game.

Fast forward to 2008 when Wii Motion Plus is announced. I have a confession to make, I didn’t think Wii Motion Plus would work. As much as I believed in Nintendo, I figured that true 1 to1 motion sensing was something that wouldn’t be around for another 5 years. So for a year I fully expected Motion Plus to completely disappoint everyone.

I love being proved wrong.

Wii Sports Resort is a blast to play mostly because that hunk of plastic works almost perfectly. I couldn’t believe how accurately it was reading my movements, even when I’d try and deliberately screw the device up. I’d put the controller behind my head and wiggle it around, and my onscreen character would follow, looking just as stupid as I did.

I’m not sure how much fun the game is to your average Joe, but if you are a fan of the first game you’ll probably really like Wii Sports Resort. By far my favorite game is Sword Fighting. Not only is it amazing to play, but I finally get to live out all my Jedi Star Wars fantasies. Golfs been greatly improved, making putting a effortless process rather than the “you didn’t swing it hard enough” frustration fest it was in 06. The Frisbee games are awesome once you get the hang of the them, and I think table tennis actually works better than tennis did in the old game.

Surprisingly, one of the best games in the set doesn’t even have you acting out sports movements. There’s an island flyover game where you hold the controller like a toy airplane, and I think that they could make an entire game out of it. It’s fun and relaxing to fly over the island and look for all the secrets, plus the control scheme makes it feel like you’re a little kid again. My only regret being that you don’t hold the remote like a joystick. Did that not cross their minds as a good idea?

Though I don’t know if it’s better than the first game, Wii Sports resort is a lot of fun and I highly recommend it.
